Dilworth Methodist Church South

A 1915 church turned restaurant is now a local historic landmark in Charlotte, NC.

Historic Designation Reports

In June 2026, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg City Council officially designated Dilworth Methodist Church South as a local historic landmark.

Constructed in 1915 in the suburban neighborhood of Dilworth , the building shares important associations within its local Charlotte context. The church building is the first known and documented project of Marvin Helms, one of city’s most prolific twentieth century architects. Helms designed scores of buildings during his career and was widely known as a church builder.

Although constructed for Methodist worship, the building was occupied by the Church of the Nazarene for nearly 50 years (1926-1973). The Nazarene faith was just beginning in North Carolina when the former Methodist house of worship was purchased. The building is one of the first churches established by the Nazarenes in the state.

In May 2025, a highly regarded new restaurant, Leluia Hall opened in the church building following a detailed rehabilitation project.

Verity is proud to have worked with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmark Commission to bring visibility to this important building and its associated history.
