South-View Cemetery Historic District
Atlanta’s first Black-owned corporation, and one of the most important sites in the city.
Verity Works is committed to assisting communities in recognizing all stories.
We are working with the Atlanta Preservation Center, Atlanta City Council Member Jason Winston, and South-View Cemetery to list the cemetery on the National Register of Historic Places as an important part of Atlanta’s African-American history. One of the earliest African American stockholder corporations in the state, South-View Cemetery continues to serve as a resting place for prominent Atlantans. As of May 2026, South-View Cemetery was officially listed in the Georgia Register of Historic Places. The application is currently being reviewed at the federal level by the National Park Service.
